Hallo! My name is Claudia Brouwer (Cañedo Cázarez).
In short: I love music and I love to share it with others! I adore teaching children (that is why I decided to focus my teaching career on preferably teaching children) It fascinates me how our human nature is so musical and so capable of creating music, observing music development in children is like observing the development of children's brain trough a glass window.
More information about me?
I have more than 20 years of experience as a music and piano teacher in different schools and countries (Mexico, United Kingdom, Belgium, U.S.A). Since 2016 I have my own private piano studio in Groningen and work as a free lance pianist. I have studies on Music pedagogy at the University of Guadalajara (Mexico), Piano studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama of London (United Kingdom), I hold a Bachelors Degree in Piano Performance from the Maastricht Conservatorium (Netherlands) and a Master Degree in Educational Sciences from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium). I am currently doing post-HBO studies on music education for the elementary school at the Conservatorium of Amsterdam and I am Member of the European Piano Teachers association (EPTA).
My playing goes from light music, covers, classical music and improvisations. I write piano music for beginners and intermediate level players as well as arrangements and pedagogical works for the piano. You can hear some of my works at www.claudiabrouwer.com
My teaching and my vision of teaching music is influenced by current neurosciences research on music and on research based music education. My master thesis was dedicated to research music and dyslexia and other cognitive problems.
The lessons consists on playful and personalized activities based on different pedagogical approaches and principles such as Montessori, Kodály and Suzuki. Activities such as singing, improvising and composing are encouraged as well as performing for other children and parents in different concert activities. With the piano lessons for young children I aim to help them developing important technical and musical abilities but also contribute to their emotional development.
Children around 10+ are encouraged to learn to play also using chords and learn the basics of music software. There is a stronger emphasis on developing good technical habits and to participate in different class projects and playing together in duet with other students. In this period there is a lot of attention given to help them find their path and preferences in music. The lessons used different methods and apps to introduce the children to different styles and approaches to music.
